Having problems running...

ProHEC1 or ProHEC2

DOS based programs

A Notice to Dodson’s ProHEC1 and ProHEC2 Users:

As of 7/1/2003, Dodson will no longer provide support for ProHEC1 and ProHEC2. These DOS programs have been replaced by our HydroPro for Windows program and is included with our ProHEC-CD package.

Solution for running DOS versions on faster systems...

ProHEC1 and ProHEC2 will not run on systems that are faster than 650Mhz. These DOS based programs were developed using Turbo Pascal which does not support the faster clock speeds. Borland, the developer of Turbo Pascal, has no plans in updating their compilers.

ProHEC1 and ProHEC2 must be run on systems that are 650Mhz or slower. Or suggested workarounds are as follows:

There are 2 slowing programs on the internet that can slow a faster machine down during the operation of specific software, like Dodson’s software.  It’s fairly easy to emulate a slower processing speed and create a shortcut on your desktop to operate ProHec1 and ProHec2 through the slowing software.  Once you exit the Dodson software, the slowing is ended, not affecting other running software.

Problems when running DOS based programs in Windows

Before trying the following suggestions make sure that you have installed the program properly and have tried running at least one of the sample files supplied with program. See README.TXT file supplied with program or printed installation instructions.

Solution 1:

  • Create a Shortcut for the PROGRAM_NAME.EXE file. You can (optionally) place the shortcut on the desktop.
  • Once the shortcut is created right-click the shortcut and select its Properties.
  • In the Properties window, select (click) the Memory tab.
  • In the Memory page, set the Total for Conventional, Expanded, and Extended memory to Auto.
  • Click OK to save the settings and exit.
  • Run the PROGRAM_NAME program by double-clicking the PROGRAM_NAME shortcut.

Solution 2:

If the first solution does not work, you need to edit the CONFIG.SYS and/or AUTOEXEC.BAT file and remove any unnecessary TSR (memory-resident) programs that require conventional memory.

Solution 3:

If the above solutions did not resolve the problem, then memory may not be the cause. Delete existing program (backup any project files that you created before deleting) reinstall the program on local C: Drive.
